My son, Ryan, and I have spent years sharing baseball. In Fathers, Sons, and Baseball I wrote about my passion for the game and how it has impacted my relationships with my father and Ryan. I have many male friends who have forged similar bonds with their fathers and sons. I know, however, that baseball is not just for guys. In fact, I know many women whose passion for and knowledge of baseball exceeds many of my male peers. But this is not true for my daughter, Katie. To be sure, my Katie – unlike Katie of baseball lore – does not have the fever, does not know all the players by their first names, and does not “root, root, root for the home team,” or any team for that matter. And, that is okay with me because Katie and I share a special father and daughter relationship. This Dreaming of Cooperstown blog is about living a life that matters and in this section, A League of Their Own, I will celebrate the important women in our lives, whether or not they have a passion for baseball. A League of Their Own is dedicated to Katie.
